Here at Pompton Lakes Animal Hospital, we work hard to stay up to date on the latest advances in veterinary medicine. For this reason, we are pleased to announce that we offer regenerative shock wave therapy for our patients.
Regenerative shock wave therapy uses high-intensity shock waves to help aid the healing process. It is quite effective and non-invasive. Unlike the name, shock wave therapy does not shock or hurt the patient. It is a pain-free and relatively easy procedure. Shock waves are used to make the horse’s own body release growth factors and increase blood flow to the affected area.
Shock wave therapy also increases the quality of the healing process. Often after an injury, the injured area heals but does not heal back to its original strength. By using shock wave therapy, we hope to increase healing by promoting increased blood flow. We also believe shock wave therapy can prevent reinjuries.
Regenerative shock wave therapy is often used in cases that are hard to heal. This includes osteoarthritis and degenerative joint disease. Many tendon and ligament injuries are also helped by shock wave therapy. Bone injuries can sometimes be helped by this therapy.
Shock wave therapy can be used on patients who have had orthopedic procedures. We have seen great results when it is used along with stem cells especially with patients that have orthopedic problems and degenerative joint disease.
Our PulseVet machine is the best for sending shock waves to a focused area. We are pleased to be able to have this machine to give our patients the best chance at healing quickly and preventing re-injury.
If you have any questions about whether or not regenerative shock therapy will help your horses and their condition, feel free to contact us today. We would be happy to assist you in any way we can!
